![]() For one, it draws attention to two great tracks, the instrumental theme from the film Devil’s Angels, which bizarrely, Danzig’s cover manages to make sound new and vibrant. ![]() Complete with “Twist of Cain” pinched harmonics, it’s hard to dislike it. But it falls inline with the excellent opioid absinthe swirl of Lydia Lunch and Rowland Howard’s cover, except with this sort of Bonnie Tyler call return that really works on the Greek mythology side of the song.ĭanzig’s rework of Davie Allan & The Arrows’ Devil’s Angels mostly works and his voice is in surprising fettle as this sounds like it could have fallen out of a forgotten Misfits (or early Danzig) bootleg. The cover was not included because the publisher did not like what Danzig did with it. It’s worth noting that the album feels the loss of Some Velvet Morning. Of which, “Deth Red Sabaoth” feels a little like Tony Clifton doing metal (check out Ju Ju Bone ). ![]() ![]() Always the same, always a little different, really easy to drunkenly sing along to in a bar sticky with Jägermeister and no sunlight. Though a warmly regarded one, like an old vaudeville act smoothly rolling out the same old shtick. There is an easy sing-a-long feature to Danzig’s work that to some that might stray toward self-parody. Sometimes, as in the case of “Ulver’s rendition of Dead Can Dance’s In the kingdom of the blind. I enjoy when people do covers, most of the time it’s an interesting look at both the song and coverer. Ignoring the slight overproduced sound of his later work, I wanted to like this album because Danzig doing covers sounds like a great idea. Boone’s versions of the songs seem to bump and jostle as if they’re a band arguing silently with how the song should sound before it becomes the song. This cost me a couple of days as Boone’s album was way better than I expected and completely derailed me. In doing so, I lined up the original songs and Pat Boone’s metal covers album. I decided to try and take this review of Danzig’s covers albums “Skeletons” as seriously as people seem to think Danzig takes himself. ![]()
